The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has, over the years developed and maintained the best species information system in the country. This database was developed using the best available software at the time, Advanced Revelation (AREV). However, with the advancement of technology the VDGIF decided to convert VAFWIS to use a more mainstream, off-the-shelf software and development system. This will make VAFWIS as visually appealing and "state-of-the-art" as possible while maintaining its current scientific credibility. The Fish and Wildlife Information Exchange will work with the VAFWIS re-engineering team to make this product possible over the next couple of years.
