Course Description

Introduction to Visual Basic for Applications for ESRI Products

This course is directed towards individuals with an interest in programming within ESRI’s ArcGIS product suite. The course introduces the participant to concepts and methodologies required during the process of application development with VBA in ArcMap, and it is designed to provide a practical foundation for customizing and extending the ESRI ArcGIS interface. The participant will work with an instructor through a series of exercises to become familiar with common controls and ArcObjects used in most GIS-related tasks.

This course is directed towards those who work with ArcGIS, but may be new to programming within the VBA environment. No programming experience necessary. It is ideal for users who want to learn the options available to them for customizing and extending ArcGIS applications.

Upon completion, participants will have a basic understanding of ESRI’s VBA Editor, the Customize dialog, and be able to write custom code in VBA. The participants will have a variety of sample code they can use to build their own applications. The participant should not expect to leave this class an experienced programmer. Rather, the participant should expect to leave this class armed with an understanding of the development environment, customization methodologies, and online help available to them for building their own applications.

Cost

The cost for the 3-day course will be $360 ($295 for students currently enrolled at Virginia Tech).
