Metadata Training for State Fish and Wildlife Agencies

Outreach & Education
Metadata makes it possible for data users to search, retrieve, and evaluate data set information by providing standardized descriptions of geospatial and biological data. These descriptions convey such things as content, quality, lineage, contact, and other characteristics. Our work focuses on training workshops, metadata creation, posting metadata on the Clearinghouse, and other related topics.

Types of Workshops

Two Day Workshops

  • Two day workshop provides the opportunity to create metadata through hands-on exercises using your own data set and to prepare files for the Clearinghouse. This course covers each element of the standard. This workshop is designed for those who will be creating metadata.

One Day Workshops

  • One day workshop focuses on an overview of the metadata standard and has less detail about each element of the standard. Metadata may be created through directed hands-on exercises. The Clearinghouse is briefly covered in this workshop. The one day workshop is designed for those who will be creating metadata or need to understand metadata concepts.

Half Day Workshops

  • Half day workshop gives a very brief overview of the standard and the Clearinghouse and usually has no hands-on component. The half day workshop is designed to provide a basic introduction to metadata. A longer workshop is recommended for those who need to create metadata.
