Collecting endangered species information on federally protected military lands is required by the Endangered Species Act. Michaux’s sumac (Rhus michauxii) is a federally listed endangered species that was discovered at ARNG-MTC Fort Pickett in 1994 and has been actively monitored every 3 years since 1996. Updated locator maps of the Michaux’s sumac populations were produced for ARNG-MTC Fort Pickett. We used a geospatial model to identify the extent of known Michaux’s sumac populations and determine the presence and location of new populations. The model identified potential Michaux’s sumac locations based on landscape level variables. We field verified the presence of Michaux’s sumac at 128 locations.
